Caregivers of children with disabilities often receive grim outlooks for their child’s future. Our “Straight Talk”, straight from the heart, family series was created to provide a positive, empowering forum for Families to share what they have learned on their journey.

(soft music) - Parenting a child is a difficult task, but most parents have some idea in advance what to expect. They've heard about sleepless nights, endless diapers, terrible twos. Parenting a child with a disability is different. Parents don't know what to expect and often, in the very beginning, the information they receive is all about the limitations that their child may face. The Texas Complex Access Network TXCAN wants to help parents better understand what to expect and empower them with the information that will help them hold high expectations for their child. These videos focus on what parents have learned on their journey and what they think would be most valuable for other parents to hear.
