Student-Centered Approaches
This training introduces educators to research-supported, student-centered practices that strengthen a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) including explicit instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and the Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF). Participants will explore how these practices align with their MTSS program and how they support the academic and nonacademic needs of all students.
Learners will engage in applied learning activities, knowledge checks, and reflection opportunities designed to support understanding and implementation of each of these practices.
After completing this training, learners will be able to:
- Define and describe explicit instruction
- Define Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and explain its connection to MTSS
- Describe the Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF) and explain its connection to MTSS
There are two ways to complete this training:
- View Trainers by Region to contact a regional MTSS specialist for information on how to join a synchronous workshop in your area.
- View Course on TEA Learn to enroll in a self-paced asynchronous course.
Coaching Support Included
This training includes a coaching component delivered by experts at each regional education service center to help educators apply what they’ve learned with confidence and fidelity. Coaching provides personalized, job‑embedded support grounded in four research‑based practices proven to strengthen instruction: alliance-building, observation, modeling, and performance feedback.
Educators and coaches complete a three‑step coaching cycle—pre‑observation, observation, and performance feedback—to reinforce training content and improve implementation. Coaching is designed to fit flexibly into your existing schedule and enhance your work, not add to it.
