SPPI 14 Post-School Outcomes Survey

The SPPI 14 survey provides a clear measure of post-school outcomes for youth with disabilities as they transition from high school to adult life. The survey results are submitted to the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and include data about the percent of youth who are no longer in secondary school, had individualized education programs (IEPs) in effect at the time they left school, and were enrolled in higher education, competitively employed, enrolled in other postsecondary education or training programs, or engaged in other types of employment within one year of leaving high school.

To collect this data, a survey is conducted one year after the cohort of students left school. Contact information for students and their parents/guardians is collected through the Texas Student Data System (TSDS). Exited students are contacted through phone calls, text messages, email, and postcards.

Reports with statewide, regional, and local data are developed to share the survey results with appropriate audiences. To use these reports in your work as a special educator, it’s important to understand the timeline for each cohort. For example, consider the cohort of students in grades 9-12 who exited during school year (SY) 2021-22. Their contact information was submitted through TSDS in February of 2023 (during SY 2022-23) and they received an invitation from Gibson Consulting Group to complete the survey during the summer of 2023. The reports with results from this survey were developed during the fall of 2023 and published in 2024.

Local education agencies (LEAs) with five or more completed surveys will receive a report with local data, shared directly with their administrative team by their education service center (ESC) transition specialist.

The resources in this collection will help educators use the SPPI 14 survey results to improve transition planning and prepare the next cohort of exiting students to respond to the survey one year after they exit.
